On May 6, 2025, the indie rock band Momma brought their “Welcome to My Blue Sky Tour” to Phoenix’s Crescent Ballroom, delivering a performance that captivated the audience with its blend of nostalgic indie sounds.

I recently have been listening to Momma a lot and the other day I was able to experience the band live finally. Crescent Ballroom, is small, which actually made the whole thing feel more special. Everyone was packed in close to the stage. You could feel the energy as soon as they walked on.

Momma is fronted by Allegra Weingarten and Etta Friedman, and you can tell right away that they’re not just bandmates but they’re best friends. They were constantly looking at each other while playing, almost like they didn’t need to talk because they just knew what the other was about to do. Their voices together were so chill but powerful, and their guitar playing was tight without feeling too polished. It was just very real.

They opened with “Sincerely,” and everyone immediately started moving and nodding along. The crowd wasn’t wild or anything, but everyone was super into it. It felt like everyone there had some kind of emotional connection to the songs. I know I did. The whole show was like that. There weren’t any crazy solos or crowd surfing, but it didn’t need that. It was emotional and warm and fun. It reminded me why I love music in the first place.

By the end of the show, when they played “Speeding 72,” it gave me this weird mix of happiness because it has been my favorite song from their whole discography. It’s like remembering a really good summer that’s over. It’s hard to explain, but it just hit.

Momma made the whole thing feel like a personal memory you didn’t know you were making until it was already over.
