Indie duo CULTS returns to a SOLD OUT Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix, AZ

Indie duo CULTS returned to Phoenix’s Crescent Ballroom for a sold-out, intimate performance on Sunday, Aug. 18, in support of their new album, To the Ghosts.

CULTS are no strangers to the Crescent Ballroom stage, transforming it into their own candle-lit passage through time and space. To the Ghosts, released July 26, 2024, on Imperial Records, marks singer Madeline Follin and guitarist Brian Oblivion’s fifth release as a band and their first return to Phoenix since 2022. Joined by indie rockers BNNY, the event became an ethereal and energized evening, perfectly signaling the end of summer.

With their straightforward setup enshrouded in a white draped background, CULTS hit the ground running with lead single “Crybaby,” a song that embodies the past, present, and future of the band’s celestial sound. Bodies moved, smiles and cheers were constantly directed at the band, proving CULTS can stand the test of time and age with grace, giving an energetic performance reminiscent of their decade-old debut.

Each song was performed with care and passion. Complemented by video projection and clever lighting, the venue was filled with allure and wonder as undulating shadows demonstrated the constant motion of the enthralled crowd.

Nearing the climax of their carefully curated setlist, they chose to enlighten the crowd with “Gilded Lily.” Follin’s emotional prowess and lyricism were in full effect, perfectly accentuated by stark linear shapes, pointed spotlights and a vast spectrum of dreamy colors projected on the stage.

It’s standard to thank the city, however, the sincerity of Madeline expressing that Phoenix is one of her favorite stops truly capped off the magic of the night.

CULTS closed the show with fan favorite “Always Forever,” promising Phoenix they will come back always… and forever.

CULTS’ fifth album, To the Ghosts, is available now via Imperial Records.
