Phoenix, AZ – The desert heat gave way to a cool breeze on Friday night, but the energy at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre was anything but calm. Fans poured into the venue for a highly anticipated evening with rising Regional Mexican star Ivan Cornejo, as his Mirada Tour made its stop in the Valley of the Sun.
Before the main act, opener Andrea Bejar took the stage, setting the tone with a soulful set that warmed up the buzzing crowd. The venue was already alive well before showtime, with lines of eager fans wrapping around the parking lot and many proudly sporting Ivan Cornejo merchandise, from tour tees to cowboy hats.
At exactly 9:00 PM, the amphitheatre plunged into darkness. A massive LED screen lit up in a glowing orange hue, slowly rising to reveal Ivan Cornejo and his band behind it. Dressed in a crisp white denim jacket, shimmering baby blue pants, and cowboy boots, Cornejo looked every bit the star he has become. His band consisting of a bassist, drummer, and both electric and acoustic guitarists.
He opened the night with “Atención,” instantly igniting a wave of excitement. The audience belted out the lyrics with passion, creating a chorus that echoed across the amphitheatre. Cornejo smiled warmly, visibly moved by the outpouring of love from his fans. It was clear this night meant just as much to him as it did to those watching.
The venue was filled, with every seat occupied and the lawn area packed shoulder to shoulder. Throughout the night, Cornejo’s visuals played a key role in setting the emotional tone of each song. Each track featured its own palette, moody blues, fiery reds, romantic purples projected through lighting and the immersive screen behind him.
His setlist blended nostalgic fan favorites with newer tracks, showcasing his artistic evolution. Songs like “Esta Dañando” and “La Última Vez” brought longtime fans to tears, while tracks from his recent album Mirada kept the momentum going strong. One standout moment was his heartfelt performance of “Donde Estas,” his latest single, which had the entire crowd swaying and singing.
Musically, Cornejo’s style is best described as corridos tumbados de amor, romantic yet gritty, deeply rooted in Regional Mexican tradition while blending modern tones and emotional storytelling. His vocals, smooth and aching with sincerity.
One of the most electrifying moments came when Cornejo called out, “¿Dónde están las solteras?” a signature move at many Latino concerts that translates to “Where are the single ladies?” The crowd roared in response, cheering and waving as the energy surged once again.
Throughout the evening, Cornejo made a point to connect with everyone in the crowd, from the front row to the farthest corners of the lawn, often waving, smiling, and thanking fans for their support. His humility and authenticity shined as brightly as his stage lights.
To close out the night, Cornejo performed “La Curiosidad,” a fitting finale that left fans emotional and fulfilled. The crowd lingered after the final note, soaking in the experience and hoping for just one more song.
