Los Angeles-based band Militarie Gun has announced their forthcoming album God Save The Gun, set for release on October 17 via Loma Vista Recordings. Alongside the news, the band revealed plans for The BAD IDEA Tour, a 21-date run featuring support from Liquid Mike and Public Opinion.
The tour begins in Palm Springs, California, on October 25 and will make stops in cities including Louisville, Worcester, Baltimore, Richmond, New Orleans, and Houston, before wrapping up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on November 22. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 22 at 10 a.m. local time.
The tour takes its name from the album’s lead single, “B A D I D E A,” which debuted last week along with a video directed by vocalist Ian Shelton. The track premiered on Apple Music’s New Music Daily Radio with Zane Lowe, where Shelton and guitarist Kevin Kiley discussed the single and the band’s upcoming plans. Shelton also recently spoke with Rolling Stone about the themes behind God Save The Gun and the personal experiences that shaped it.
Upcoming Performances and Special Appearances
Before embarking on their headlining run, Militarie Gun will play a series of notable shows this fall, including:
- Garden Amp in Garden Grove, California on September 7, with Gorilla Biscuits
- Riot Fest in Chicago on September 19
- A string of West Coast headline dates with support from Death Lens and Milly
- Two shows supporting the Sex Pistols: October 15 in San Francisco and October 16 in Los Angeles
About God Save The Gun
Shelton describes the new album as “a very human document of being at your worst when you should be on top of the world.” The record reflects on cycles of self-destruction and self-belief, with Shelton candidly acknowledging his struggles with addiction and vulnerability.
Militarie Gun’s acclaimed 2023 debut, Life Under The Gun, explored the lasting effects of growing up in the shadow of addiction. With God Save The Gun, Shelton moves from observer to protagonist, confronting his own experiences directly.
The album was created with a mix of longtime collaborators and new creative partners. Shelton continued writing with Phillip Odom, worked alongside James Goodson of Dazy and Nick Panella of MSPAINT, and partnered with producer/engineer Riley MacIntyre (Adele, Arlo Parks, The Kills) to shape the album’s sound and emotional depth.
Strengthened Lineup
Following lineup changes during their debut’s touring cycle, the band solidified with William Acuña (guitar), Kevin Kiley (guitar), Waylon Trim (bass), and David Stalsworth (drums) joining Shelton. Rather than slowing the band’s momentum, the changes have only sharpened Militarie Gun’s live presence and creative energy.
Recent Highlights
In 2023, Militarie Gun released the Life Under The Sun EP, featuring reimagined tracks from Life Under The Gun with collaborators such as Bully, Manchester Orchestra, and Mannequin Pussy. A companion mini-documentary captured the collaborative process at Manchester Orchestra’s Atlanta studio.
The band also contributed to the WWE 2K24 video game, creating “Gun Under The Gun (MFG)” for Post Malone’s in-game wrestling character. Post Malone additionally selected their track “Do It Faster” for the official soundtrack.
