Alaska-bred and Portland-based rock collective Portugal. The Man have released their latest single “Angoon,” offering fans one final taste of their upcoming album SHISH, arriving November 7 via KNIK/Thirty Tigers. The new track arrives alongside the announcement of additional live dates as the band prepares to launch their North American headline tour on November 6.
SHISH captures Portugal. The Man at a moment of transformation. The ten-track album leans into vulnerability, experimentation, and the band’s distinct sense of sonic curiosity. Frontman John Gourley uses the project to explore themes of identity, reflection, and parenthood, drawing inspiration from his Alaskan upbringing and his experience raising his daughter, Frances, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder four years ago.
The new single “Angoon” is a sharp political reflection and an intimate piece of storytelling. The song critiques the contradictions within the American political system while honoring the history of land and culture lost to colonization. At its heart, the track recalls Gourley’s memories of his father venturing into the Alaskan wilderness with a six-foot toboggan packed with essentials: grape jelly, a tarp, and a hatchet.
This blending of the personal and the political defines SHISH, which showcases a broader musical freedom than the band has ever explored before.
Portugal. The Man have also announced “The Lords of Portland Present Portugal. The Man,” a limited run of intimate underplay performances that will feature deep cuts, covers, extended jams, and special guests. These shows will take place alongside the band’s main North American Denali Tour, before the group heads overseas for a month-long European and U.K. tour in early 2026.
