Louis Tomlinson has released a new single, “Imposter,” alongside an official music video starring RTS Award–winning actor James Nelson-Joyce (This City Is Ours, A Thousand Blows). The track arrives just days ahead of Tomlinson’s third studio album, How Did I Get Here?, which is out this Friday, January 23, 2026.
Directed with a stark, reflective tone, the “Imposter” video mirrors the song’s emotional core, centering on themes of identity, self-doubt, and dislocation. Musically, the track leans into a raw, low-fi indie pop sound, driven by a pulsing bassline and distorted guitars. Written by Tomlinson alongside Nico Rebscher and Dave Gibson, the song addresses the artist’s experience with imposter syndrome and the feeling of not fully recognizing oneself. “I can’t get this feeling out my head, that I am the imposter. I don’t really know who I am anymore,” Tomlinson sings.

“‘Imposter’ was written in the jungle in Costa Rica,” Tomlinson says. “Conceptually it leans into the idea of identity. It’s probably the most melodic moment on the record, and I’m really excited for the world to finally hear it.”
The track is taken from How Did I Get Here?, an album that sees Tomlinson pushing himself further as a songwriter and lyricist. After sketching early ideas in the English countryside, he spent three weeks in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica in early 2025, writing and recording alongside primary collaborator and co-producer Nico Rebscher (Aurora, Alice Merton). The change in environment played a significant role in shaping the album’s atmosphere, which is more introspective and unguarded than his previous work.
In support of the release, Tomlinson will appear as both a speaking and performing guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this Thursday, January 22. He has also announced a special underplay show at Racket in New York on Friday, January 23, coinciding with the album’s release day.
Later this year, Tomlinson will embark on the How Did We Get Here? North American tour, beginning June 3 in Vancouver and making stops at major venues including Madison Square Garden in New York, TD Garden in Boston, and the Kaseya Center in Miami. The tour follows the album’s release and marks his return to large-scale arena performances across the U.S. and Canada.
