Toronto-based punk provocateur ThxSoMch has officially announced his debut full-length record, The Sound of You Laughing, set for release on August 29 via Atlantic Records. The highly anticipated album is now available to pre-save.

Coinciding with the announcement, ThxSoMch has unveiled an expansive North American and European tour, kicking off this September with support from re6ce. The run will hit major cities across the U.S., Canada, and Europe—full tour dates here.

A Record Born from Isolation

The Sound of You Laughing is produced by grayskies (known for work with d4vd, Wisp) and mixed by iconic engineer Mike Crossey (The 1975, Arctic Monkeys). It’s an album of raw self-expression, created during seven months of isolated recording in Brazil. Far from home and cut off from his regular life, ThxSoMch leaned into a meditative and transformative process.

“It put me in the best mental place I’ve been in for a long time,” he shares. “No phone, no English, no sense of time—just a flow state that let me escape everything else… It’s the sound of acceptance and the sound of burying what’s really going on. It’s mockery and coping, choking and surviving.”

Soundtracking the Chaos

The album is a genre-blurring blend of punk energy and rap defiance, grounded in ThxSoMch’s sharp songwriting and gritty authenticity. Mixed once again by Crossey, the record crackles with emotional honesty and kinetic momentum.

“It isn’t a cure—it’s a distraction. A pause. A breath between breakdowns,” ThxSoMch says. “You can’t laugh forever. You laugh until you choke. And then it’s not so funny anymore.”

The album’s latest single, “Sound of You Laughing”, captures the duality of comfort and discomfort. Sparked by a guitar riff from Flawed Mangoes and finished with drums from LMG, the track was largely freestyled, reflecting ThxSoMch’s spontaneous and visceral approach. Wonderland Magazine included the track on their Wonderlist, calling it a “sad boi banger with snappy, emotive vocals and heady, guitar-led instrumentation.”

The accompanying official video, directed by Tommy Kiljoy, was crafted backward, centered around nostalgic childhood photos. “The whole goal was to nail that super specific feeling: that liminal nostalgia you get from seeing old playground photos,” Kiljoy explains.

Also out now: “Would You?”, another emotionally charged visual from ThxSoMch’s growing catalog.

Viral Origins and Skyrocketing Rise

ThxSoMch broke through in 2022 with the viral hit “SPIT IN MY FACE!”, which has amassed over 672 million streams on Spotify and landed on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, he’s toured globally, performed at Rolling Loud, and racked up over 1 billion career streams, including three tracks with more than 100 million plays each.

With a steadily growing fanbase and more than 414K TikTok followers, ThxSoMch continues to push boundaries in post-punk and alternative rock. The Sound of You Laughing is set to be his boldest statement yet.
