Following the recent release of debut album Ode to Greyhouse, rising alternative-rock band Edgehill announced their first headlining tour. On night one, fans filed into the local Columbus venue, Ace of Cups. When I arrived for doors at 6:00, there was a line already wrapped around the building. The band’s single “Doubletake” recently topped the Billboard charts at No. 1 on Alternative Airplay after gaining viral attention. Since then, Edgehill has continued to gain momentum and build a loyal fan base.
Supporting act Meadowglade, a Nashville-based indie-rock band, opened the show, playing a series of unreleased songs as well as their first single, “Magnolia,” which has gained viral attention and nearly 1M streams. The new band revealed they plan to release more tracks on streaming platforms soon.
From the moment Edgehill took the stage, every person in the room – even the bartenders and venue staff – was locked into the performance and couldn’t look away. They opened with older fan favorites from the first EP, “Towel” and “Just Got Clean” before going into several new album tracks. Highlights included “17 Hours” and “Innocent,” where the vocals were powerful and gritty. The trio — Chris Kelly (vocals/guitar), Jake Zimmermann (lead guitar), Aidan Cunningham (drums) — with support from Zach Shirley on bass, played with the familiarity and precision of lifelong friends.
Several times throughout the performance, the bandmates looked at each other in disbelief and smiled. Towards the end of the set, frontman Chris Kelly addressed the crowd with an emotional speech about the band’s journey to having their first tour as the headliners: “It’s hard to believe we’re not the openers tonight.” The show concluded with their 2022 single “Shooting Glances.” The band stayed after the set to meet fans, signing merch and taking pictures.
With gut-wrenchingly vulnerable lyrics and the raw energy and passion of a small-town band on the rise, Edgehill is going to be your new favorite artist — I know they’ve become mine. I was lucky enough to catch a show in March when they toured supporting fellow indie-alt band Worry Club, and I’ve been a loyal follower since.
